SUMMARY:PACER Center Online Streaming Workshop: Specific Learning Disability (SLD) and the IEP
DESCRIPTION:PACER Center began in 1977 with one program called Parents Helping Parents.  It is a nonprofit organization located in Bloomington\, MN\, and for 49 years its mission has been to educate and support parents and families who have children with disabilities. Today PACER is nationally recognized for its ongoing work and dedicated staff.  They provide a wide variety of services not only to children but to their parents\, siblings\, grandparents\, and other family members.  PACER also has educational information in Hmong\, Spanish\, and Somali.  Their current workshops are all Online Web Streaming and are free.  You must register in advance online and then you will receive directions on how to join the workshop on the day of the event. \nTheir Toll-Free number is 800-537-2237. \nThis workshop will explain what Specific Learning Disability (SLD) is\, what the interventions are\, and what supports are available for the kids who have it. The participants will learn how to advocate for their child\, how to get through the special education supports\, and learn about Individualized Education Program (IEP). DESCRIPTION:Join us for a discussion on managing ADHD challenges in the Sandwich Generation at theMay 2026 ADHD Professional Guides Luncheon. \n\n\n\nAccording to the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary the Sandwich Generation is defined as “a generation of people who are caring for their aging parents while supporting their own children.” Now let’s add ADHD into the mix at different ages and stages of life. This demographic can face specific challenges when living with ADHD due to the need to care for both younger and older relatives at the same time. \nOur discussion will focus on: \n\nWhat are the stressors faced in this unique family dynamic?\nWhat support systems need to be in place?\nWhat will be the role of professionals in treating this growing ADHD family structure.\n\nPre-Discussion Topic Readings: \n\nThe Sandwich Generation: Burdens on Middle-Aged Americans on the Rise by Bruce Drake (Pew Research Center)\nThe Sandwich Generation and ADHD by CHADD (ADHD Weekly 2017-05-25)\n\nSeating is currently limited to 20 participants and 14 seats remain.
