Artificial Intelligence (AI) is in the news every day, along with stories about its positive and negative impacts on our lives. This applies to our ADHD community, too. So it’s time that we all learn about AI from an ADHD perspective. One of the challenges that confronts those with ADHD is developing and maintaining effective organization and time management skills. Finding the right tools for an ADHD person can be a major improvement at home, at work, and in school. The newest and fastest-growing field of ADHD tools comes from the field of artificial intelligence (AI), and when used correctly, they can help improve one’s ability to manage time and stay organized.

ADHD national organizations like CHADD and ADDitude Magazine recognize the value of AI tools for those with ADHD and have published a number of articles on various aspects of the topic. In this month’s newsletter, we are providing you with a sample of several articles from CHADD, Edge Foundation, and the Associated Press to provide a starting point to learn more about how AI can be used to help with ADHD.

  • While AI brings many benefits to those who live with Executive Function challenges like ADHD, it also carries risks that those who employ it must remain aware of. Chief amongst these is the fact that though artificial intelligence can complement traditional ADHD treatments, it is not a substitute for them, and it is easy to become overly dependent upon such tools. Artificial intelligence tools can also pose a real risk of privacy invasion and misuse of personal data if not used cautiously.

AI has the potential to be an asset for people with ADHD, but it can also pose risks, and understanding both the risks and rewards is crucial to leveraging AI as another addition to your ADHD toolbox. I encourage you to discuss the use of AI as part of your management program with your physician or mental health care provider, and if applicable, your ADHD coach. Learning to use AI properly and cautiously may add a new, positive element to our lifelong learning about ADHD for all of us in our ADHD community.

Making the right connections can make all the difference.sm
