May is National Women’s Health Month, and May 12 (Mother’s Day) kicks off National Women’s Health Week. So it is fitting that in this issue, we introduce you to Ellen Littman, Ph.D., who is one of the leading ADHD experts on women and girls who have ADHD.
Dr. Ellen Littman
For three decades, Dr. Littman, who is a clinical psychologist, has sought to understand neurodiverse individuals, particularly adolescents and adults with high IQs. She is qualified in identifying complex presentations of ADHD and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) that sometimes are missed or misunderstood. The American Psychological Association (APA) calls her “a pioneer in the identification of gender differences in ADHD” because of her extensive involvement in working with women and girls who have ADHD.
Dr. Littman’s perspectives in neurobiological, developmental, cognitive-behavioral, somatic, psychodynamic, and trauma-informed perspectives contributed to understanding neurodiversity. She has advanced training in trauma, eating disorders, self-harm, and crisis intervention and is especially involved with those who have experienced chronic childhood trauma – both with and without ADHD. An interest in dissociative symptoms that mimic inattentive ADHD has also given her tremendous experience in treating dissociative disorders such as Dissociative Identity Disorder.
