May We Introduce You To: Russell Barkley, PhD & Dedicated to ADHD Science

For decades, Russell Barkley, PhD, has been one of the most recognized voices in ADHD research and treatment. He has diplomas in Clinical Psychology (ABPP), Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology, and Clinical Neuropsychology (ABCN, ABPP). Dr. Barkley worked as a Professor of Psychiatry and Health Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina from 2003 to 2016. He was also a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center from 2016 to 2021. He is a Fellow of the APA (American Psychological Association), a clinical scientist, an educator, practitioner, and writer.
Dr. Barkley has written 25 books, rating scales, and 43 separate editions of clinical manuals, including the bestselling book Taking Charge of Adult ADHD: Proven Strategies to Succeed at Work, at Home, and in Relationships with Christine M Benton. In addition, he has published more than 300 scientific articles on ADHD and related disorders. He is the founder and editor of the Guilford ADHD Report, a clinical newsletter, and created seven award-winning videos on ADHD and defiant children. Dr. Barkley has been the speaker at over 800 lectures in 30 countries and appeared on national TV shows like 60 Minutes, The Today Show, Good Morning America, CBS Sunday Morning, CNN, and others. He served as President of the Section of Clinical Child Psychology, Division 12 of the APA in 1988 (now known as Division 53). Also, he was President of the International Society for Research in Child and Adolescent Psychopathology in 1991. He has served on the editorial boards of and has been a reviewer for numerous science journals and national organizations like ADDitude.
Now retired, Dr. Barkley continues to provide evidence-based education on ADHD through his YouTube channel. His channel focuses on providing science-based information about ADHD and provides the benefit of his 45 years of clinical practice, research, teaching, and drawing on his numerous published works. Posting videos several times weekly, Dr. Barkley covers various ADHD and related topics. Most videos have a play time of between 7 and 20 minutes, but some can be much longer (greater than 30 minutes) or shorter (a couple of minutes.) Each video covers a variety of subjects, including weekly research updates that discuss important articles in ADHD research, in-depth discussions of specific issues such as ADHD and driving, ADHD medication, ADHD diagnosis, ADHD and comorbidities, and much more. Dr. Barkley also posts videos covering a range of related issues that touch on ADHD, such as misinformation on TikTok, ADHD rumors and theories, and the impact of ADHD in society. His website features more than 30 hours of lectures made freely available to families living with ADHD, all professionals, and the general public.
