Well, we are on the last leg of summer, and it’s time for us in the ADHD Community to start to gear up for Fall and get back to our normal routines with school, work, and home life. For those who have kids with ADHD or teachers who have ADHD students, I recommend that you learn about Brandon Slade, the founder and CIO (Chief Innovation Officer) of Untapped Learning.
We know that neurodivergent students who struggle with ADHD and other learning disabilities face unique challenges that do not affect neurotypical students. This can make traditional learning methods and techniques hard to learn and frustrating all through grade school, and many colleges can struggle to meet the needs of neurodivergent students.
Since ADHD management is a lifelong learning process, the challenges can grow and become even more frustrating the further one progresses in education and work.
Brandon Slade
Brandon Slade understands these challenges and frustrations. He was diagnosed with ADHD at a young age but did not understand how differently his mind worked compared to neurotypical students until he was in college. This inspired him to learn all he could about the brains of those with ADHD.
He is an alumnus of the University of Colorado-Boulder and completed his Master’s Degree at Arizona State. Brandon spent twelve years as a special education teacher in Boulder Valley and developed his passion for helping students with particular disabilities, including ADHD, after observing them struggle with timekeeping and organization. As time passed, this grew into a full-time practice, which led to the creation of Untapped Learning.
Untapped Learning
Founded in 2017, Untapped Learning is an organization dedicated to coaching those with executive function issues. It uses research-based strategies to help students with neurodiversity issues overcome academic challenges. Today, Untapped has over 250 students at its Broomfield, Colorado, location, and it works closely with other students across the nation to improve their study strategies. It provides various services for students from 6th grade to college levels and employs a very different approach from other learning centers.
Untapped starts by providing students with a mentor who assists in developing specialized weekly plans for navigating school. These mentors also conduct weekly check-ins with the students they mentor, and students can check in virtually or visit in person with one of the two Untapped facilities (Broomfield or Centennial).
Brandon Slade & Untapped Learning
Brandon and Untapped have been featured in Forbes, Grown and Flown, NBC, and an assortment of colleges nationwide. He is a contributor to ADDitude Magazine’s Ask the Expert Webinars. The links to these two webinars are at the end of the article.
I want to encourage you to watch the webinar replays to expand your knowledge of ADHD. Brandon’s enthusiasm offers a role model for how to meet the many challenges ADHD presents and the strategies we can learn to lead to a successful ADHD management program and life.
